Increased training proves recession beater for Chartridge Conference Company

Author: UltimediaPR

Chartridge Conference Company (CCC) reports a dramatic improvement in both customer satisfaction ratings and sales conversion rates. This is despite the current difficult economic climate which clearly demonstrates the benefits of increasing staff training programmes.

At the start of the recession, CCC managing director Peter Darnell made a positive decision to increase investment in staff development programmes to gain market penetration and customer retention at all five CCC conference venues. He commented, a€œI have never understood why companies cut their own staff training the minute times get tough. It’s an easy option and less traumatic than cutting staff, but the long term effects put a company at a distinct disadvantage. We recognise that the quality and skills of our staff is our strength and this is an ideal opportunity to build on our customer service and sales skills. It not only improves our short term position in a competitive market, but will play a significant part in our future growth.a€

Training sessions are held regularly, and although they’re management led, active delegate participation and personal experience feedback is a key part of the agenda. a€œIt really has worked superbly,a€ commented Debra Fenton-Neale, general manager of Birmingham-based The Beeches. a€œGone are the days of scripted sales pitches. Our sales executives deal with our customers in a more relaxed and informal way, yet they’re totally focussed on identifying their needs and recognising  opportunities for up-selling.  Since the new programme was introduced we have seen a remarkable increase in conversion rates from enquiry to booking, which has played a significant part in helping us achieve our targets.a€

Customer service has always been at the heart of the Chartridge ethos.  Since January 2009, every member of staff, from front of house to gardeners, receives ongoing customer service training. It looks at the business from the customer’s viewpoint, identifies the key drivers of customer loyalty, what motivates them to return and how to win back an unhappy customer.

General manager of Chartridge, Stephen Quigley added, a€œTraining is important for staff development, but we need to quantify the benefit to the business. We have therefore been monitoring our customer satisfaction with regular surveys, and in the last six months, our ratings have increased from 84% to 94%. Happy customers are our bread and butter, so the increased investment in training really is paying dividends.a€

Added Darnell, a€œAt Chartridge we believe that investing in our people is far better in the long term than simply spending money on bricks and mortar.  When potential business markets start shrinking it is the expertise of our people, together with our commitment and ability to add value, which will keep us ahead of our competition. We all know that there may be even tougher times ahead, but by investing in our people now we will be in a stronger position than most when the economy eventually recovers.a€

    Thanks

    • ZenPenguin says:

      That’s an incredibly complicated question for YAnswers. The Thesis is the cumulation of weeks, months, or YEARS of research. Trying to explain what to write is similar to trying to explain everything in calculus, differential, integral, and metavariable, on one answer.

      Check out the link – it will help you get started, nothing more.

    “Professional help
    Each owner of the business have to think carefully about the future. From the owner perspective, the legal obligations and rights affecting business sometime are difficult to understand. There are many companies which can offer professional support to businesses. It is important to employ an accountant, solicitor or business consultant with an in-depth knowledge to make sure that the business is secured in the future and meet all regulations. There are many people who want to share their experience for a fee. However, it is expensive but it may be helpful in expanding the business and developing future options. Business consultants are highly skilled and they are providing individual solutions for each client. They able to help with:
    • practical advice
    • ideas for reducing expenses
    • how to develop and expand
    • any other general business problem

    As I mentioned in first part of my report, before starting my own business I would like to contact with highly skilled business consultants to cover lacks in my experience. It gives me idea and some useful advice about running own business. The professional support will be able to have a look my business ideas and tell something more about it – Is it worth doing? I also will be need professional help in the future. If my business grow-up I may need accountant to deal with HM Revenue & Custom and solicitor to make sure that my business meets all legal regulations such as: health and safety regulations, and different food industry regulations such as food hygiene etc. ”

    “Training
    The business may need to train workers if there have been changes in the company’ goals or objectives or an introduction of new process. Training involves employees being taught new skills or improving skills they already have. Training staff in the future will be essential to make sure that my employees have a good qualifications and ability to do their job. Well trained workforce has certain benefits for each business. They should be more productivity. This will help the business to achieve its overall aims, such as boosting sales, keeping customer happy etc. Training should also help me to create more flexible workforce because of grater employee skills. For example if the business needs to reorganise something and some employees must replace another ones, workers may have to be trained in new tasks/responsibilities.

    Training staff cost a lot of money but it leads to better performance in the future. Increasing the skills levels in the business is beneficial. If you identify any lacks in skills in your business you can provide training to your employees to fill all lacks in skills. Skills development will increase employees’ confident. Training staff to work more effectively or more efficiently can rapidly increase their productivity as well as increasing the business’s profit. Skilled employees have a wider rang of skills and they are able to work in different area of the business. For example trained worker with experience will be able to replace someone in the future if this person will we get retied.

    Training might be provided by business consultants or may be taken at local colleges (e.g. Bolton Community college which offers a wide range NVQ’s)”

    “Timescales and planning
    Planning involves thinking about the future direction of the business as well as identifying the strategies and skills required to achieve goals. It is very important to set time scales because it will help to monitor own and business’s development to make sure that it stays on the right way.”

    “Cost implications
    Businesses faced with financial problem may see spending on training and development as a luxury which has to be cut. Businesses often think that training lead to increased costs, wasted time, disruption. Financial costs might include the wage allowance paid to employee, fees for training at local college, equipment and travel allowances. To some extent these costs are offset by government payments for training schemes paid to the employer. It is mainly dedicated to small and medium businesses. Financial support is offered to boost workers’ skills, with the specific aim of improving productivity. The Government thinks that will help hundreds of thousands of people to get skills which are proved to pay back to the companies they work for.”

    I know that it is quite long so if you don’t have a time could you just check a part of it?
    Thank you :)

    Describe the factors of influencing the choice of programming language?
    can someone please describe the factors of influencing the choice of programming language?

    factors:

    organisational policy; suitability in terms of available features and tools;
    availability of trained staff;
    reliability; development and maintenance costs;
    expandability

    in as much detail as possible….

    thanks!

    • Bob M says:

      The best programming language is the one that gets you to a completed sollution quickly. Whether you are doing contract or other work. Assuming the design stage to be the largest part of any sollution, the coding phase ought to be as small a part of the sollution as possible.

      So this suggests that Basic or Visual C# would be the best languages to use. They are to a point, for creating interfaces I do not know of better languages, also for software with limited data they still hold their own. But once you get to a place where speed is essential these two have lost their footing.

      So we have the speed issue, many techniques are used to determine what realtime operating targets any software ought to have, these are decided at the design stage. Sometimes in the design stage you would write snippets of code simply to get a value for actions on the data of your sollution from different languages. With practice though most programmers know which languages deal best with different sorts of data systems.

      Once you have this information then you have certain classes of software that your sollution could fit into, fast or less fast

      A simple list ->

      For Windows needing high speed you want C++ maybe needing some assembler functions, if speed is not an issue then C# or Basic would be fine.
      For server side web needing high speed then Perl or Java, for low speed could use C# or PHP (See PHP note).

      For a sollution that may have a long life expectancy then you have to narrow the choice even more. Future maintenance depends on not only the availability of a compiler/interpreter, but also on the availability of developers for that language. Perl, PHP have been around for a long time, they are well provenin practice and have a good base of quallity programmers to maintain them. C# is relativly new, it is easy to learn so likely to attract many programmers, but experience has taught programmers that MS is not the most reliable source for developers. Great in some areas, a pain in many others.

      Java is The major language of the moment, there is no application area where Java will not fit. It is well maintained and has a wealth of ready made libraries and tools.

      What is interesting I think is that it is all of the C-like languages that have survived and are the basis for new languages. Ada still has it’s place, but many of the others that have been around have fallen into disuse, or are only held onto by a few die hards. So really to be practical you do have to stick with C-like, C++, PHP, Java, C#.

      The libs behind these have been written, rewritten and optimised many times, though not common libs in practice, certainly common in name and operation. Ask a programmer to move from any one to any other and the problems they have are not to do with the language itself, but only in learning the best practices of each and the available libs of each.

      PHP note – This can be fast, but depends on the lib files you make use of, not all are well optimised.
