Author: Gary Fowler
If you have recently graduated with your bachelors, then congratulation is in order. You have worked hard for the past four years and have earned everything that you have achieved with determination, motivation, and perseverance. Now that you have graduated from college, you’re a probably ready to enter the workforce full steam ahead. However, maybe you’ve been looking the entire summer so far and yet to find many leads. Graduating at this time poses some major barriers as well as opportunities. Due to the recent downturn in the economy many people who would have found a teaching job by now are forced to work in restaurants, as lifeguards, or any other job not using their degree because there are just not enough teaching jobs out there.
Those who currently have a teaching job are losing benefits, getting wage decreases, or even losing their jobs all together. Now you must be thinking what do I do now? Since you are still fresh out of school and probably without much experience, a smart thing would be to go back to school to get your masters in teaching. Now I know you must be thinking, I just spent the last four years of my life in school, why would I want to go back. The answer is that once the economy turns around and there are more jobs up for grabs, by having a masters in teaching you will be put up at the top of the list to get a even better job than you would have gotten simply with your bachelors.Gaining a masters in education is going to open up a lot of doors for you. Not only will you be able to teach primary, but you will also be able to teach at the college level. If you have a masters in teaching you will also get paid more because you are a master in your field and schools look better when they are stacked with more educated teachers. Typically a masters program only lasts two years, but you can also get on a fast track program which should only take a year to a hear in a half if you go to school full time. There are many options when it comes to gaining your masters in teaching, such as attending a brick and mortar school or attending classes online.
It truly depends on you which option is going to work the best, for if you have to keep a job the most practical avenue would be take classes online and on the weekends. However if you can dedicate your time fully then maybe going to a brick and mortar school is the best option for you. Whichever you choose, deciding to go through with gaining your Masters in teaching is a step in the right direction as it will put you in the best position possible to reap the rewards when the economy turns around. Deciding to get your masters in this economy is one of the smartest ways to go about further your career.

what’s the difference between teaching licensure and teacher certification?
I want to get my teaching license but the wording is confusing me. I found a 5-week program to get a licensure but is this different from a teaching certification?

Do you know of a summer program to recieve teaching licensure?
I live in TN.
I will be graduating next May with a Masters in education but no licensure due to time constraint of student teaching.
Do you know of any summer programs I can apply to to recieve my license over the summer without having to retake my classes.
There is a great difference between a masters and licensure. Programs range from 1-1.5 years in length, and you wouldnt be retaking classes as the content is entirely different. You still need student teaching. Did you pass your subject matter tests?
The bad news for you is that there is no such thing as a “summer program”. You need methods and curriculum courses specific to your area, state specific clear courses and student teaching – none of which were supplied by your masters program.
That should have been clear upon entering the masters work.
Can a person receive both a BFA in Acting and a teaching licensure?
I am considering getting a teaching licensure in addition to my BFA degree in Acting, so that I can have a rewarding backup career and maybe give a little back. Does anyone know if this is possible?
It sounds possible; it depends on your state’s rules for teachers. I know most acting teachers shoot for an MFA because that’s typically all you need to teach at the college level, whereas most secondary school systems require further licensing.
What is a teaching licensure endorsement for speech communication?
What is this specifically? Is it more for secondary ed or elementary ed and what do you do with it? http://marymount.edu/cat/undergrad/programs/com.html#ba
You help people with speech impediments.
Teaching Licensure from WGU in South Carolina?
Do you have a degree from WGU and are licensed to teach? Is this degree and licensure accepted in SC, if so was it difficult for you to find a job. Based on the information that the sc education dept. gave me, they have the criteria for it to be accepted in SC, but im trying to find someone who has actually gone through the program and their experiences on trying to find a teaching job. Thanks.
I was in the WGU teaching program before I switched to Business Management. If you chose to get you degree this way you should have life experience such as working at a school on your resume. I LOVE WGU. I suggest that you contact the school you wish to work at and ask for guidence. Here is the WGU student hall a lot of great information and you can contact students from SC.
