Do states have reciprocity with regard to K12 teaching certification?
I have a master’s degree in TESOL, however, I do not have a K12 teaching certificate. Currently, I teach adults. I am wondering if it would be worthwhile financially to get a K12 teaching degree. I currently live in MIchigan (where the profession is being hit hard) and I am willing to relocate. However, I don’t know if a Michigan teaching degree will be accepted anywhere else in the U.S. If not, it might be a waste of time to get a K12 certification.
Yes, many states offer reciprocity. I would suggest taking a look at http://www.certificationmap.com. It will offer you the reciprocity stats on all 50 states.
I hope this helps!
If a teacher has NYS teaching certification, which southern and/or western states would grant them reciprocity?
I may look for a teaching job out west or down south; which states would offer me certification reciprocity? Thank you best answer for 10 points.
I do not have a concrete answer. But, I have heard that the standards for teachers in the South are far less than in the North. Teachers moving to the South from states like New York and especially Connecticut are highly regarded and in demand. I know Connecticut and California have the toughest standards for certifying and educating teachers in the country.
I believe New York is also highly regarded too. Where would you like to relocate? I’ve heard Florida is dying for good teachers and their public education system is horrible. I was thinking about moving there myself and becoming a teacher. I read on a website that teachers from the North are in high demand and are often paid stipends and increased salaries.
New York & California credential reciprocity?
I am currently working towards receiving my Early Childhood Education (Birth-Grade 2) certification in New York. I just found out I am moving to California in the near future. How will my teaching certification transfer over? I am aware that I will have to take the CBEST and other requirements, but what credential will be equivalent to mine since they don’t have an early childhood education credential? Will I be certified as Elementary Multi-Subject? I am going to call them as soon as they open tomorrow but i have been driving myself crazy trying to find information online. Thanks for any help you can offer.
Here is the exact document. We dont have any early childhood credentials – all ours are listed as multiple subject elementary (including preschool)

TN and SC teacher certification reciprocity?
I am certified to teach in SC and am getting my masters in education in TN and would like to stay in TN to teach. Is there reciprocity between the two states or will I need to take more praxis tests?
Contact the Tennessee State Department of Education for information./
How do I get a teaching certificate in NJ?
I already have a Social Studies certificate in NJ. That was pretty easy to get because I passed all the necessary exams and actually went to school for Social Studies. I did not go to school for English, but I did pass all of the tests and I have been teaching English for 4 years. I currently hold a PA certificate for English. I want to get the same for NJ, but I have been told that it is not as easy. The NJ department of Education is only open for phone calls from 3 to 6pm on weekdays and I have only gotten through once. Their website is not very useful either. Has anyone been in a similar siutation? Can’t I just apply for a certification under rules of reciprocity? I need help!
You’re right that their website isn’t very helpful. It does seem that New Jersey will accept your of state certificate. However, you will have to pass the subject area exam they require, and perhaps the general Praxis as well (though I’m not sure as you already have a NJ certificate in a different subject). Good luck!
