Here is a Method That is Helping Managers Deal With Difficult Staff

Announcing Ways To Deal With Difficult Staff.

As a manager, how do you deal with difficult staff?

How much of your management time is spent unwisely with difficult staff?

Would you like to know the secrets of easily managing your problem staff?

Well this is what it takes.

Every business and department has them – problem staff who use up a great deal of a managers time and energy trying to achieve better performance and results. A few years ago, it was easy to rectify the problem, just terminate the employee and get on with business. In today’s business world, employment laws have become much more employee friendly which has increased the challenges to managers as to how to deal with these individuals.

So how does a manager handle such staff effectively to achieve a win / win resolution?

Unfortunately most managers focus all their efforts in trying to get rid of the problem rather than taking a step back and planning a strategy to give the staff a chance to become an asset to the business/department.

In order to deal with a problem employee it is important to be able to pinpoint where the true problem lies. The good news is that managers only need to focus on three areas to find the answer.

As a manager, if you follow these three areas in order, you will find where you will need to focus your efforts to turn your problem employee into a productive member of your team.

The first area to look at is training and development. Has the employee been trained and developed properly? Does he or she know what is expected of them? Was their training and development period adequate? Do they perform their duties within the guidelines set forth by the business/department? If you can answer yes to all of these questions then training and development is not the issue, then you need to move to the next area. On the other hand if you answer no to any of the above, it is time to set aside some time to re-train the individual.

The second area is the environment. Is there something in the employees work environment that may be affecting their performance? There may be a possibility that the employee may have developed an allergy to the equipment they work with, or there may be something in the air that is causing the employee problems getting the job done. Or they don’t have the space, correct chair, tools to perform their role.

If the environment is the cause of the problem it may be in the managers best interest to try to find an alternate job within the company that will provide a better climate for the employee to work in. Or provide them with the appropriate tools in order to complete their role.

If the environment is not the problem then the only other option is the staff’s behavior. This is by far the most difficult to deal with as people in general get very defensive and offended when they are being talked to about their conduct. When speaking with an employee about their behaviour it is important to be up front with the issue. There is no reason to beat around the bush. You have to ask questions and let the employee say everything they have to say. The employee may have personal problems that are affecting their duties; they may hate the job or are having problems with someone they work with. Once you have found the root of the problem then it is important to offer solutions. It may be counselling, a mediated meeting with another employee, or maybe the offer of a leave of absence from work to get their affairs in order. Once the discussion has neared the end you must inform the employee of your expectations as their direct report and how they are expected to behave at work.

By following the above steps you as a manager will be able to improve performance and production from the most difficult member of staff.

A Last Word…

One of the biggest fears in being a manager is dealing with difficult staff. It’s not easy but don’t put it off – deal with it as soon as possible after you see a dip in the staff member’s performance. Make sure you are seen as the manager who deals with difficult staff effectively and efficiently.

VB Programmers are generally required to be free of scratches and other superficial dermal injuries. Maybe you could program in Java, where the requirements are not quite so severe?

Seriously though, Answers is not a job-seeking site. Try Monster or any one of a number of similar sites.

    Homework Help ASAP (observation paper)?
1 How would I write an observation paper?

this is for early child edu, and I did pree k

2 what should I put for the DAP curriclum? It was pre k and they were coloring stars (thats all they did then they went out side)

3 i didnt find this out, so what should I put for staff training and development?

    4. what does this mean? Is the program seeking accreditation or is it accredited
    thank you

    • singer_chic87 says:

I would just put down everything they did in the class. What were they learning and how did they learn it? Even in pre k they’re learning something. Like the letters and numbers maybe? Maybe they learned morals through stories? Why were they coloring stars? It had to have been related to something. And they were learning artistic skills and practicing their motor skills.
You’ll have to find out how the staff is trained. See if you can talk to someone at the school.
If the school is accredited it means that they are up to the standards of the government. The test grades are where the state wants them to be. That’s kind of hard with pre k. Because they don’t really have standardized testing and that stuff. But if you can find out what the government feels kids at the age should know and be learning. And are the operations of the school up to the state’s standards. Is it a good school or does it need improvement?

A question for all NVQ students….?
I have noticed that there are a lot of students posting their questions on here. I study a university course and do regular studies into early education and also the background stuff like training, staff development etc etc….

I am really interested to just know (and possibly use answers in my study if thats ok) the following:

Why do you post on here–and so frequently usually?

Is it because you dont get enough tutor support? Do you literally copy and paste the answers or just use as guidelines? Do you see yahoo answers as an easy way to do coursework etc?

I hope that the answer isnt just because its the easiest thing to do because I have found that often childcare fails and childrens well-being is lowered due to unsuitable training and lack of experience and skills needed. So for those of you who do justuse yahoo answers as a method of ‘cheating’ and getting the answers please think of the wellbeing of the children you will care for…they deserve the best!

I’m not a student, I’m actually a qualified Early Years practitioner but I have noticed the same thing.

When I did my course, I used books for any of the questions I was unsure of.
My tutors were useless, in fact, they were more bothered about flirting with the cleaner than they were our education!

I know a couple of girls doing a child care course (CACHE) at college and they have admitted they use the Internet for a lot of their sources – WHY???

There are countless books on children’s care, learning and development that are brilliant, far better than any amount of websites.

I certainly hope the people who ask questions use it as a guide.

Though, I also disagree with people giving them long winded answers, I usually give them a point to think about, then they can expand on it.

    teachers funny or not?
“Let me see if I’ve got this right. You want me to go into that room with all those kids and fill their every waking moment with a love for learning. And I’m supposed to instill a sense of pride in their ethnicity, modify their disruptive behavior, observe them for signs of abuse and even censor their T shirt messages and dress habits. You want me to wage a war on drugs and sexually transmitted diseases, check their backpacks for weapons of mass destruction, and raise their self esteem. You want me to teach them patriotism, good citizenship, sportsmanship, and fair play, how and where to register to vote, how to balance a checkbook, and how to apply for a job. I am to check their heads for lice, maintain a safe environment, recognize signs of antisocial behavior, offer advice, write letters of recommendation for student employment and scholarships, encourage respect for the cultural diversity of others, and, oh yeah, always make sure that I give the girls in my class 50 percent of my attention. My contract requires me to work on my own time after school and evenings grading papers. Also, I must spend my summer vacation at my own expense, working toward advance certification and a Master’s degree. And on my own time you want me to attend committee and faculty meetings, PTA meetings, and participate in staff development training. I am to be a paragon of virtue, larger than life, such that my very presence will awe my students into being obedient and respectful of authority. And I am to pledge allegiance to family values and this current administration. You want me to incorporate technology into the learning experience, monitor web sites, and relate personally with each student. That includes deciding who might be potentially dangerous and/or liable to commit a crime in school. I am to make sure all students pass the state mandatory exams, even those who don’t come to school regularly or complete any of their assignments. Plus, I am to make sure that all of the students with handicaps get an equal education regardless of the extent of their mental or physical handicap. And I am to communicate regularly with the parents by letter, telephone, newsletter, and report card. All of this I am to do with just a piece of chalk, a computer, a few books, a bulletin board, and a big smile AND on a starting salary that qualifies my family for food stamps! You want me to do all of this and you expect me NOT TO PRAY?” …
