Issues on Tardiness – a Matter of Responsibility
Tardiness – Who’s Responsibility Is What?
HR is basically a line function. The old school of thought consider HR as a departmental function, solely the jurisdiction of a few people in the HR department. If this was given enough serious consideration, HR people would be very powerful, and very burdened.
Line leaders are responsible, not only for the output of production (product) but also for the resources to produce that product – the most critical of which is MAN. The leader is primarily responsible for his people – the good, the bad, and the ugly.In my seminars on leadership, I always compare supervision to a family setting. If I’m the father of my children, anything they do, they answer to me directly. I wouldn’t allow my brother (their uncle) to discipline them for me. The same principle shall hold true in a workplace setting.
And what’s the role of HR?, invariably they ask. HR provides guidance and proper perspective, being the “watchdog” (sorry for the terminology) of the whole house. HR should see that there is equity of application, fairness in dealling with specific situations. HR should ensure that “due process” is observed all throughout, from issuance of the show-cause memo to the awarding of the final verdict, termination – the point of no return.
As members of the management family, leaders (no matter at what level), must be responsible enough and provide the expected balanced maturity to look into the multi-dimensions of their functions, which cover MAN, machine, money, materials, and methods. Product is one side of the coin; production capability is the other. Product is “the golden egg,” process is “the goose” that lays the golden egg.

Leadership?! HELP!! 10 ptsss?
Advice?
I am filling out an application to go to a leadership seminar at Pepperdine University, Malibu. One of the questions im having troubel answering is “What is your favorite movie?” Why would a wuestion like this be on an application? What would be a clever movie to put that may impress them and convince them to pick me!?
Thanks so much!!
BTW im a junior in high school
High Plains Drifter, Clint Eastwood.
what are some ways I could use leadership skills to positively affect my high school?
I hava an oppertunity to attend a special seminar on leadership. What are some ways that I can use those skills to affect my high school in a positive way?
Take over the cheerleading squad and make them all clean the bathrooms. With toothbrushes.
Hugh O’Brian leadership seminar? (HOBY)?
I got nominated for it, and a really want to do it. But, I have a 3.5 (the other 12 up for it have higher grades), and I don’t do any community service. How can I maximize my chances to get in?
BTW: Interview is on Monday
What are they looking for, if not high grades and tons of extracurriculars?
A positive attitude is everything.. Show them you have one.
Why does my boss treat me differently?
My boss show favor to the other employees on our team. She send one girl to leadership seminars and does not even ask me. I am a good employee and do a great job in my area. I have been with the company for three years. I see leadership in this other girl, but I am also a leader. Why does she treat me differently?
Be patient. Wait 4 ur turn.
Im thinking about trying to attend the West Point Summer Leadership Seminar?
Can anyone tell me a little bit about it? I know the basics but during the application process what do they ask? Im gonna be honest I don’t think i have the best grades but i compensate for that in hard work, honesty, and physical fitness. Whether that be at work (im a lifeguard) where i have to stay on stand for extended of periods of time in the heat because we are severely understaffed by others quitting because of the rigor, or at school were i get involved in every fund raising event anyway i can, or even in sports where i am the captain of my high school team and even though i am in a separate basketball organization outside of school, i am the captain of that team as well. I’m also taking the SAT and ACT this year and considering i do well. Do i have a chance?
I go to a rigorous school and take all AP/IB courses. All in all i guess what i am trying to say is what is the application process like?
Thanks
The video on the West Point website does a good job of describing SLS.

The application process consists of submitting the pre candidate questionnaire earlier than applicants who do not wish to attend West Point SLS. Applying to any of the service academy Summer Seminars also is an application to the service academy. The pre candidate questionnaire asks for class rank, Gpa, Sat/Act or Psat test scores and extracurricular activities. According to Colonel Batchelder(video) the typical student has class rank in the top 10-15%; Psat scores in the upper 60′s/Sat scores in the upper 600′s or higher, Act scores in the upper 20′s low 30′s; a sport or two; some varsity letters; and a few other extracurricular activities. The service academies will consider the strength of the curriculum and the competitive level of the school determined by the percentage of students continuing on to two year and four year colleges. West Point SLS is still less than half the size of the Naval Academy Summer Seminar though it has increased in size in recent years: 800(2009), 1000(2010), 1100(2011). The Naval Academy Summer Seminar invites 2250 precandidates.
Good Luck!
