What can I do to help my husband?
My hubby has been doing a union job for the last year which has meant he has been working from home and he has thoroughly enjoyed it. He has been a bit like a counsellor/legal person helping people with their jobs. I have seen him thriving on it. Two months ago two permanent jobs came up for this role and people were asked to vote. The vote was stopped because someone objected to the way the voting was done and so it was put off until this month. My husband has just received the news that he didn’t get the position and has to go back to the job an hour’s drive away in one month’s time. He is totally fed up about it and saying that no-one wants him, even though he has got a job to go to that does not fulfill his needs. He is wallowing in self pity and I have told him to start looking for something else. His attitude is what is the point I never get anywhere and now he is thinking of giving up being a parish councillor as he will never have the time to do that either.

The problem is he has got to want to find something else and he never makes that effort to look he just moans about the previous job he was doing all the time. I suggested (a totally stupid thought given the current credit crunch), that we sell up and move back to where we came from (Bristol) so that it would ease his travelling problems and I got the usual – can’t do, can’t do, can’t do.

I pushed him into this counselling role because he would enjoy doing it and sure enough he really flourished at it. He also wants to give that up now doing it on a voluntary basis because he just feels totally rejected.

I don’t know what to do but I do know that by going back to his old job it will totally stretch us even more financially. Funnily enough the person that complained about the voting was the one that got in and it was her old job that my husband was covering for.

How can I pull him out of this one as I only have so much strength to deal with him and deal with our three children as well.
