I need advice on self publishing an e-book. Software to make and sell the book would be great.?
I expect the book to sell quite well, and would want to protect the book with wahtever features are available to make it harder to copy. I can afford to spend a few dollars on softwre to get the right stuff. I appreciate any help you can provide.
Hi there. Free eBooks are terrific as promotional tools for printed books but you shouldn’t count on selling very many copies. The market is just not there for eBooks yet. Even though all of my books are available in both eBook and print, most people still prefer a book they can hold in their hands.
I use Adobe pdf eBook versions to give readers the opportunity to read the first 4 to 10 chapters of my books. For my money and time, Adobe is the best eBook software. I think it retails for around $400.

how do i know whether an e-book i downloaded is free or still under copyright.i did”nt know much about all these things before.only some while b4 i read that not all the e-books are free and in fact they are under copyright.i have already downloaded some 60 e-books on self-improvement.now,as i am truly leading my life in christ,the revelation came as a bit of a shock to me(70 years copyright stuff).please help me how can i know whether an e-book i have downloaded is free or sth thats illegally downloaded(still under copyright),as i am afraid that i had spoiled some author”s living.please help me friends in this regard.thank you in advance.
I don’t know a lot about this, but my guess is that if you got the book for free, and it is still in print, that it is still under copyright laws. Is the e-book site you got the book(s) a reputable site? Or have you just gotten the books from various sources on the net?
Authors would have a hard time keeping up with anyone and everyone who posts their book for free online. If you are worried about a particular title, I would suggest you see if you can find the copyright notice in the e-book and contact the author or publisher to find out.

That’s a good question.
Check the sites you used to download the books again. Was it the author’s own web site? If so, was he/she offering it as a free download?
If it’s not the author’s site, see if the site verifies that they have permission from the copyright holder/author to offer the books or if they have some deal with the publisher that allows it (like the publisher and thus the author getting money from advertising).
If there’s no verification in some way or another and the author is still alive (or hasn’t been gone more than 70 years), chances are your download is illegal.
If it’s an illegal copy, there is a chance that you don’t have a duplicate of the original. Not only can it have errors, it may also have come with some extras like a worm or two.
Personally, if I couldn’t verify the legality, I’d delete the copies I downloaded. To make it right, I’d then buy the books (even if I had to do it little by little because I didn’t have the money to buy them all at once).
BTW: I don’t mean to be harsh; just giving my opinion. Also, if you find that they are illegal, don’t forget to run a good anti-virus and spyware program to check your computer!
