The Origin of Roller Skating
Nowadays, roller skating has been one of the interesting sports by people, not only the adults, but also some little kids. People like this game because it with a lot of challenges, but the origin of this excited sports is still unknown by many people.
Looking back to history, we will find the origin of roller skating is very interesting. It transformed by ice-skating. According to upload, the earliest roller skating was born in 1100A.D. At that time, hunters put bones on the sole of their leather boots for the purpose of hunting in winter. Scotchman Dutchman made the first roller skates in 1700A.D creatively. He hoped that he could imitate ice-skating in summer on the road, so he tried to install a wooden spool on the sole. After numerous failures and improvements, finally he succeeded to invent the roller skating in common sense. Since then, roller skating has been developed in Europe.
In the year of 1860, a musical instrument maker name Joseph Merlin in Belgium made a pair of hand crafted roller sport shoes. However, an accident happened when he brought it to the World Expo in London Britain to show those enthusiastic audiences. Because of the lack of braking, he bumped into a mirror and got hurt during the event. This accident was reported by media and caught a lot of attentions. Since then on, roller skating was regarded as “dangerous sport” for very long time.In 1819, M. Peitibled in France made the first pair of single row roller blades which made of two or three wheels. But its configuration was not did not get popular. And in 1823, British Rober John designed a pair of roller blades with five wheels on its sole and named “Rolito”. Unfortunately, it was still welcomed by people at that time.

Boxing for Self Defense…Is there a Gym/Trainer for that?
Hi,
I’m 22 year olds small guy (5’5″ 130lbs). And I wanna be able to gain some confidence and protect myself and others. (and of course to get stronger)
So I want to start learning to box, but the thing is…it’s more for self defense and confidence than it is for competition. Is this common in boxing gyms? Because I want to start by joining a gym and getting a trainer but I don’t want the trainer to see me as a waste of time since I’m not going to be doing this as a career. Do they do this kind of stuff?
Also typically, how much do trainers cost?
Thanks.
Unless you go to a dedicated boxing gym, you should have no problem getting a trainer (even then most likely they’ll take you). The boxing instructor at my gym has members in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. He wanted me to join, saying it would be good for my cardio, I just can’t see how laying on my back unconscious will help. Prices will vary, gym to gym, city to city, they usually tack it on to your basic gym membership.
How can I boost my self-confidence?
I know this is really long, but i’d really appreciate it if you read this and took the time to help me out, i’ll try to answer your questions too if you link them!
Anyways, i’ve always been really short for my age and kind of chubby. I never considered myself ‘ugly’ but lately, there has been a lot of drama in my life. I’m being bullied and i’ve been getting called fat and ugly. It really hurts me, and makes me cry. Thankfully, i’m starting to realize who my real friends are, and they have been there for me through all of this, which makes me feel a little bit better. Anyways, to get to the point..i’m 14 years old, and starting high school next year. I want to use this opportunity as a new start. I really want to lose some weight, not to impress other people, but to improve my own self confidence and make myself happier.
My question is….if I start by cutting out junk food (chips, popcorn, fast food, cookies etc..) and drink only healthy juices, water, and milk, and also work out on the treadmill (running with an incline, not just walking) will I see results soon? I know this takes time and effort, and i’m willing to do it, but i’m only 14, so I can’t really diet, and I can’t go to the gym and work with a trainer. In the summer time, i’ll take walks and ride my bike, but while the weathers bad, will working out on the treadmill do anything for me? I want to start by burning stomach fat. Any other tips for losing stomach fat will be appreciated SO much!
Thank-you all

Boxing, Gym, MMA, Which One for Self Confidence and Defense?
Hi there,
I’m a 22 year old small guy (5’5″ 130lbs)….I want to start training to get bigger so that I can protect myself….and also the ones I love so that in the future I can also protect my girl and my family when I have one.
I suck at self discipline so I’ll probably get a trainer… but I’m not sure what to go into….Boxing, MMA, a regular gym, etc.
But I’m not sure which is best for my purpose. I just want to gain some confidence in myself so that I don’t feel weak and that I am able to protect my loved ones.
What ya guys think? Any suggestions?
Thanks!
All depends on preference.
A gym is a great place to train for a specific activity (ran faster, lift more, jump higher) or gain size, but isn’t generally very ‘functional’. Bench pressing is nice, but how often do things fall on you when you lie on your back? It takes a lot of know how or a pretty good PT to bridge the gap from the weights to real life situations. On the other hand, it let’s you move at your own pace, no pressure. Definitely the best to get big.
Now obviously size isn’t everything. A skilled guy can take on much larger unskilled opponents with ease. MMA/Boxing provide more direct fight training. How to react under pressure, how to attack/defend. More competitive obviously, but it means you’ll get better faster too. They’ll develop power and endurance, but very little size. One of the best choices if you’re interested in competition, but more sport oriented then self defence.
A martial art is much the same, just generally more rigid. Karate, Jujitsu, Kung Fu, Judo, Taekwondo; all great arts that will greatly improve your ability to protect yourself. Each has a different focus: striking, submissions, grappling, pressure points, etc. Much of the conditioning found with MMA or boxing, but with more emphasis on self control and discipline. Nobody messes with a black belt.
For pure self defense, a good option is a more specialized martial art like Krav Maga, Systema or Defendo. Those are less traditional than their older relatives, more open to ‘whatever works’. Other disciplines train you to fight with a set of rules or as a sport. These teach you, if a fight is inevitable, to incapacitate your opponent however possible in the least amount of time (groin, knee, eye strikes, arm bars, weapon use/weapon defence, etc).
It’s really up to you and what you want. Any of those and many others will give you a good background in self defence and help boost your confidence. Your best bet is sign up (free trial session!) with a few different ones and take your pick. Have fun.
I’m a little over weight and I need to lose some pounds to boost my self confidence.?
I’m 14, 5’4 and 155 Ib. But I look like I’m about 130 which is what I’m supposed to weigh. So I’m about 25 pounds over Weight.
Its Summer time now, but I’m not very active, but I start soccer next week. And also I’m heading into high school so I want to boost my confidence level and maybe get a boyfriend but i have always been afraid because I am way to self conscious. Now since I’m young i feel like this is the time to Create good healthy life habits but its hard when the people around you aren’t very active and don’t eat healthy, but I cant do all by myself I need some help,I’ve asked my parents to get me a gym pass so the whole family can get fit, or get me a personal trainer or something! I need help before it gets way out of hand. Any tips?
