CEUs play a key role in your professional development

Career Development in the professional front is a life-long process. It’s applicable to a coder’s profession as well. As you progress in your career, many changes keep happening, requiring an updating of knowledge and skills. CEU education plays a key role here.

These CEUs are often enough for certification as long as the certification time period has not elapsed. You may have to retest to receive a current coding certification if the certification has elapsed.
Who’s responsible for maintaining CEU records?
The onus of keeping the record of the certificate lies with the certificate holder. The provider will award you CEU certificates of completion when you have met the program’s requirements. You must have CEU certificates of completion to verify that you have successfully completed CEU programs (certificate). Normally providers maintain backup records which are available upon request.
There are various ways of acquiring CEUs. These can be acquired through college or university coursework, extension courses or conferences and seminars attendance, among other ways.

Texas teachers: What do you do to fulfill your professional development hours requirement?
I’m certified in Texas and have not taught in a public school since my certification (almost 2 yrs.) I’ve been in private schools. I just wanted to make sure I keep up with the 150 hr requirement so I can apply for my renewal certificate in 5 yrs. I know that most of you probably just go to the stuff required by your school but, if you know of anything else that I can use that’ll count please pass it along.
There are opportunities to get your PD requirements by attending seminars and also by reviewing dissertations. I know this latter because many who review work for those who are applying for Ph.Ds want “layman’s” eyes as a fresh perspective before critically analyzing it.
Are my feelings normal or should I stop being a teacher?
I am a first year second grade teacher. Everyday I feel overwhelmed. There’s constantly stuff coming at me — homework and tests to grade, behavior problems, notes from parents, mandatory after hours professional development classes, staff meetings, needy kids, taking the Pedagogy, a weekly certification class, surprise observations, trying to do American’s Choice curriculem, etc.
I know they’re children, but my students really get on my nerves sometimes with their neediness. Sometimes I turn around and I’ll have like seven kids standing behind me, each whining and wanting something.
I’ll teach the kids something, go over it again and again and again and I’ll still have half the class fail the exam.
First year is unbelievably overwhelming for all of us. You went into teaching for a reason. You need to give yourself a chance to succeed if you went into it for a GOOD reason (not because you couldn’t think of anything else you might like to do). Maybe 2nd grade is not the right fit. Maybe older kids would be better – there’s a big difference between 2nd and 5th graders. Maybe you’re really not cut out for teaching. If you really want to be a teacher, though, you owe it to yourself to give it a chance and see if it gets better.
California teaching credential question?
I was wondering if the renewal process has changed recently. I just renewed my credential online, by answering a few questions and paying money. I thought that I had to prove that I worked on professional development hours, had work experience, etc. Has something changed to make it easier now?
You don’t have to show proof of your PD unless you’re audited. So far, I’ve heard of no one being audited, but it’s good idea to keep those PD hours logged and available for evidence in case they actually decide to check things out.
Question about renewing a single subject teaching credential in California?
My credential doesn’t expire until 2010 so I’m not able to renew it for a while. I know it is required that one renew his credential online now. I have taught over the last few years but have not kept the best of records for professional development hours. I have several questions/concerns:
How likely is an audit?
Do you know of anyone who was audited? What did they have to do?
Do hours earned for BTSA requirements also count as hours needed for renewing the credential?
Any info. would be appreciated! Thanks.
I was under the impression that going through the BTSA program was all you needed to do to get the Professional Clear, thus renewing your credential. I refused to do BTSA so I am doing a 5th year program that will cover it. After that first renewal/clear then you need to start keeping track of the hours. Its all confusing so don’t take my thoughts as gospel.

You may also want to consider taking online college courses that will apply towards a degree as well as your necessary clock hours. Good luck!
