As defined by the Brundtland Commission (Potter 2002) pg. 117, sustainable development is the “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. We all should seek to sustain the development of the nations, the equity between social classes and the end of poverty. Development is thus an appropriate goal that should be created through sustainable methods, in order to bring growth and the involvement of people in their own development.
The economy is based on its primary source, the environment-nature which provides animals, plants, air, water, land and so on. If we do not protect our primary source of life, sooner or later it is going to affect our health, quality of life. Social equity is gained through a strong economy and fulfilling other types of needs, beyond the basic ones. These three conform an interconnected cycle that provides us of almost all our necessities.
Spangenberg (Spangenberg 2004), pg 12 points out four issues we should address:
aThe environmental challenge, the degradation of the natural basis of human life
aThe first social challenge, the increasingly unequal distribution of income and assets,
aThe second social challenge, the high number of people living in poverty
aThe institutional challenge, the resulting threats to peace and security.
aPopulation Planning. According to Rogers et al (Rogers 2008) pg. 53, “population growth is not such significant factor in environmental degradation” but, I agree with the authors that when improves the competition for resources such as land and water intensifies which it may brings conflicts.
aParticipation. Where citizens influence and control activities that brings their own development, including the poor and the disadvantaged
aPolicy and market failures. Especially being indifferent to what is damaging the resources, or giving priority to activities to deforestation.
aGood Governance. Its relation with market failures is pointed out and the success of policy, unfortunately, in many developing countries, for example, corruption is common and is characterized by the use of any opportunity to abuse others. In my opinion, it is an unfair threat to development or the worse cancer to it. According to United Nations Development Programme (UNDP 2008), “The erosion of human rights and respect for constitutional authority hinders programmes to alleviate poverty and increase human security”. The impact of corruption is worse for poor people and in developing countries.

Whether it is public or private, school plays a more important role than the family in shaping one’s personality. Does the school motivate learners and influence their behaviour or is it simply the place responsible for students’ distress?
To begin with, from the educational point of view, motivation given by teachers and partners activates, guides and sustains personal goals that conduct learners’ behaviour. Bernard Weiner, an American educational psychologist, describes how students are happier and more determined when they perform positive outcomes. Education at schools promotes both personal change and the cultivation of the intellect. A second point to consider is the social one. Pupils spend most of their time socialising and sharing different kinds of experiences that affect the personal unit. Here the benefits can be considerable. School authorities, teachers, auxiliary personnel and schoolmates will usually lend a useful hand to the schoolchildren; give good advice or just be around to offer support. Another argument in favour of educational institutions is the economic point of view, which claims that some of them provide students with scholar-ships and guarantee the continuity of their studies. Furthermore, many schools help students to satisfy their basic necessities, for example alimentation. Some schools supply students with food that they cannot obtain from their families.
On the other hand, learners exposed to many hours at school are often severely affected by stress, up to the point in which educatees are prescribed stress medication. So much of the school day is devoted to competition and preparation for examinations that there is little time left for personality development. Moreover, children have a closer relationship with their parents than with their teachers and partners. It is known that the infants learn habits from their families and that they usually spend about five years of their lives at home before even go to school. Finally, from the economic point of view, some families have the advantage to pay for superior education and provide their children with other activities such us sports.
We believe that education at school exists to generate motivation, well-being and strong will. Without it we would lose a valuable source of socialisation which is used for the benefit of our future society. What would be our education like without schools?

What is happening to the youth in our country? Over the last 5 years there has been a huge shift in the talent and knowledge of job applicants. They show up late, cannot spell, have striped hair, chewing gum, slouching, using ‘like’ every other word. Then they get hired and text all day, and for the most part are about half as productive as other workers.
So, my question is, did the generations before me feel this way? Why are they like this!?
