The Untold Truth About Mentors, And Why You Don’t Need One
I think there is a misconception about what a mentor truly is. A mentor is someone who guides you, someone wise, someone you trust. A mentor can be your confidant, advisor, coach, or even your role model. Many people swear by their mentors and frequently credit them with much of their success.
Yet you do not have to choose just one! The mentor-protg bond is certainly a special one, but this does not mean you are limited to the knowledge of only a single source. In the early years of my adult life, I was hoping to find just one person to guide me and direct me, but I never did find that person.
Over time, a few things became clear to me:1. There is no single person who can provide us with every answer. So why abide by one mentor who you know cannot meet every requirement? I discovered that I could learn more, not by following the advice of a single person but by observing a multitude of people.
2. There is no perfect role model. I used to believe there was such a person and that I would simply model myself after him. All I would have to do is watch and do the things he or she did. Unfortunately, I haven’t met that person yet.
3. There is no perfect person. Very few people possess all of the qualities that I think define success and happiness: great friends, career, health, family life, finances, social life, leisure, spiritual life, community involvement, etc. Most of the very successful people I’ve met had one or some of these, but hardly any had all of them. So why compare myself to the perfect person who doesn’t exist?
4. I didn’t have all of the answers, and I never will. I knew that I was going to make mistakes, but what I discovered was that it was much easier to learn from other people’s mistakes than to make all of the mistakes myself.
To me, my mentor had to:
—Take a personal interest in my development and support me in the avenues I take.
—Help me strive toward the highest of aspirations, not only in career but in the satisfaction of life.
—Want to share his knowledge and experiences, in hope that I reach a high level of achievement.
—Show me the need to fulfill all responsibilities, both at home and away from it.
—Care about the well-being of himself and his family.
—Be a great overall example.
Needless to say, I still haven’t found that one mentor yet.
Since I couldn’t find that one special person to guide me, I needed to create a mentor. Now, how does one go about doing something like that? Well, it’s not as hard as it seems. You first have to determine what you want. That is most important, not only because it’s part of the mentor process but because it directly concerns what will make you happy in life.
Once you figure out what you want, find the people that have it or know how to get it and make sure they are willing to teach you how to get it. You don’t even have to know them personally. As your mentors, they can teach you through a variety of ways: books, audio tapes, lectures, seminars, etc. A mentor then can have millions of protgs.
Here is some additional advice in finding mentors:
1. You can learn from practically anybody. In essence, anybody can be your mentor. Not only can you learn what to do or how to behave, you can also learn to avoid the wrong paths that others have followed.
2. Identify the key people in your life. Mentors can be close family members like parents or siblings, and they can also be public figures. Again, don’t believe that you have to have a close relationship with your mentors. Public figures can be key people in your life because they can have a profound effect on how you live it.
3. Find people with specialized knowledge. If certain people have written an insightful book on a particular subject or have inspirational life experiences to share, then they might be possible mentors who can help in motivating you. Plus, if they are famous, they are easy to watch via television or the Internet, and their material is not difficult to find.
4. Try to ask as much as possible. Ask people for advice, ask them how they got where they are, ask them how you can get the same things. Also ask yourself what certain people would say or how they would act in specific situations. The more prepared you are, the less likely you’ll make a mistake in the future.
5. Mentors can simply be people who are happy in life! Salary and position don’t matter as long as there is contentment and commitment. Mentors can range from athletes and politicians to religious figures and stay-at-home mothers.
I have hundreds of mentors. So how many do you have?

Competative environment (for those who strive for success)?
Competative environment (for those who strive for success)?
Hello, everyone.
I’ve got a live important question.
I’m a young man with great ambitions.
I think that the most important thing at the age from 18 to 30 is personal growth and success.
And to achieve it you need really good motivation.
For me it consists of personal discipline programm and competition with peers.
But lately it seems like there is no a single age-mate anymore who can compete with me on my achievements.
That’s quite demotivating stuff.
T H E Q U E S T I O N I T S E L F
WHERE can I find on the Internet a real COMMUNITY of young people who SHARE with each other their personal SUCCESS and COMPETE each other?
Personal information(achievements):
I’m nineteen years old. I’m living in Russia, Moscow.
I’m currently studying for higher degree in information management and corporate systems in the best information university in Russia(according to ratings) and that’s easy.
I’ve got a 25% share in a small joint venture (Business services).
I’ve got BEC Higher certificate (Business English Certificate).
I always got almost perfect marks at university( avr. 98 point out of 100 possible).
I studied a lot of philosophical stuff.
I look smart, I dress smart, I love communication.
I drive a nice sport car (Mazda RX8) (not entirely mine)
And I don’t know anyone personally who has achieved the same or higher state of living (either because of the help from parents or by their own)
Life isn’t about competing against others, or being better than everyone else.
It’s about being happy with who you are, and being the best that you can possibly be.
And if you ask me it sounds like you already have a great life.
If you want another challenge you could possibly take up a sport?
Looking for information on self help, personal growth, inspirational, success and motivational books?
Can you tell me the best books of this type you have ever read and let me know what you found most helpful about each book and also anything that you felt the book didn’t do a good job of covering / teaching…or anything you wish the book would have included but didn’t?
Thank you to all who answered so far. My question is more of a research nature…I’ve read many books of this type & am curious to see how many of those titles pop up here. I am most interested in peoples specific feelings about what was most or least helpful in their opinion, or what topics they wish would have been either covered in those books, or more deeply elaborated on. Great book choices given so far…I have read some of these…Thanks again!
The trouble with self-help, motivational books is that they leave a void for the reader to gain momentum on it’s supposed track. It helps getting you motivated but it all goes away after that initial rush.
What worked for me so far is the “Release Technique” and “The Silva UltraMind System”. I also tried this website: stevepavlina.com.
The Release Technique was created by Lester Levenson and is more popularly known as the Sedona Method or marketed under The Abundance Course. It teaches the student to experience that energy/feeling and releasing them.
Silva UltraMind teaches its student about brain waves and the different states of mind, especially the Alpha brain wave.
Steve Pavlina has good articles on his website.
I have combined both the Release Technique and using it on an “Alpha” state of mind, even “Theta” and I found it very useful.
To elaborate, using the Silva Method, one is introduced to at least four brain waves…in the following order: Beta, Alpha, Theta and Delta.
The beta brainwave is where we’re at during normal waking hours, when we are most mentally active (and unfortunately when we are most susceptible to stress and mental fatigue). Scientists had measured this to be about 15 cycles on an EEG machine (electroencepalograph)–the machine which measures and monitors brain activity.
The next level below is the alpha brainwave. It’s between 5-15 cycles. This is the state when you’re relaxed….like listening to relaxing music, taking a shower, just before you fall to sleep/right after you wake up. This is when youre subsconscious mind is mostly receptive to suggestions and where you can “plant the good seeds and pull out the weeds in your garden.”
Theta is right below alpha and is characterized by your sleep-state. It’s between 3-4 cycles. Your dreaming at this point. You may experience lucid dreaming.
Delta is deep sleep. It’s between 1-3 cycles. You may not recall having dreamt at all.
Anyway, the Release Technique focuses on simply that–releasing your emotions that you’ve hold on too up to this point, which makes you feel lighter and better. It’s powerful in conjunction with the Silva Method.
These 2 methods together have helped me get out into orbit as opposed to other self-help books, which although well-intended, fails to deliver on their promises.
I hope this helps. Please remember this is just my experience which may differ from other people.
What Is The Importance Of Personal Growth And LifestyleTo Success?
Please Answer
As the word itself suggest, “Personal Growth” is personal, it would greatly vary from person to person. So never compare yourself to others, you are special in your own ways, and have many things that others don’t. Through this mindset you will be ready to take life head on. There’s no quick way in achieving personal growth, for this is developed through time and experiences you encounter in life. Remember, personal growth is not being perfect. It’s being self aware, because by doing this you will be able to see your full potential, improve how you interact with others, able to see your mistakes and thus correcting and avoiding them, and most of all live through life with a positive perspective. Through this, you will develop to a very strong individual, you will always be happy and confident about yourself, and problems wouldn’t be able to bring you down since you can usually think outside of the box. You will always be able to see the whole view, making you appreciate how beautiful the scenery is, letting you have no regrets in the life you live. This is the importance of personal growth.
In order to guarantee success at every trail we must learn how to improve and strengthen the different key targets to our self. The ingredients to this is self discipline, to learn how to contol different aspects: actions, thoughts, words, etc. The Need/ Motive which actually involves what you really want to accomplish, Perseverance and of course your Goals. Can’t do any of these because of your addiction? Well you’re not alone because I too have gone through that.
You can also get a self help book.I recommend “Unleash your Full Potential by James Rick” http://www.fullpotential.com/category/full-potential-show/ .I was once looking for a self help book when somebody online recommended me to read his writings.I say,I never got bored reading the book.
The purpose of the Full Potential Philosophy is for living life at your best: physically, mentally, spiritually, socially and financially. It teaches you the things you need to enhance I mean the areas you need to develop and how you can be productive. We need to have deep understanding about ourselves before we get our full potential.Life is temporary. Your existence – at least on Earth, has a beginning and an end. This fact urges you to be efficient about how you use time. And that what leads you to be productive.Especially you’re wanting to lose weight and live a health lifestyle.
will choosing personal growth in feng shui thing also help me become a physiologist in my future?
or will i have to pick money and success??
It depends on what your personal life goals are. Is your life ambition to be rich and successful and being a physiologist is a way of getting there or is money and success a by-product of your dream job?
I would say personal growth, its better to be satisfied and happy than rich and cold
Has anybody had personal success enlarging the penis?
With al the hype about pills, techniques, devices, and everything… Has anyone personally seen growth and what did they do or take? What has worked for you?
Penis enlargement is one of those areas that is rife with scam artists, preying on people’s insecurities. There ARE methods that work, but you need to choose carefully.
There are 2 chambers (the Corpora Cavernosa) inside the penis which fill with blood when you get an erection. Penis size is limited by the amount of blood that these chambers can hold. The only scientific way to get a bigger penis is to increase the amount of blood these chambers can hold – more blood in means a bigger erect penis.
Enlargement pills are probably the biggest scam. There is no proof, scientific or otherwise, that any of them work. The better ones increase blood flow, so should give you a stronger erection, but none of them will give you any extra size – because they do not increase the amount of blood the penis can hold.
The only method which can do this is enlargement exercises. These work by driving blood into the chambers (using your hands) and so gradually expanding them. By consistently doing the exercises for a few minutes every day, it is possible to get a longer and thicker penis.
There’s a good site below with lots more information – check it out
