Do You Have a “Personal Growth Plan” to Develop Your Business Leadership Skills?

Author: ylvajansson

So you hate your boss and feel that your potential is being wasted staring at a computer all day in a cubicle? You want to get out and start your own business so that you can be the boss and start building wealth for you and your family? But in order to be the boss or a leader in network marketing, you need to learn to lead first!

Whether you’ve already started your own business, or you are looking into the possibilities, now is the time to create a personal growth plan that will lay the foundation for reaching your goals.

We adults often forget to do the most elementary things, like making a plan to reach our goals. But a personal growth plan that includes room for self-assessment is absolutely necessary if you want to be successful in business.

Start off and write down what you want to achieve. What sort of boss and leader do you want to be? Think about great leaders and bosses in your own life to help you create realistic goals. Then write where you are now. Follow that up with a list of your strengths and weaknesses that will help or impede your progress towards your goal.

Then it’s time for the hard work. You need to sit down and think about what things you can do to increase your chances of success. How can you amplify your current strengths and turn your weaknesses into strengths as well? That means change, and most change requires some sort of activity or practice. So you will need to devote a lot of time and energy to make your personal growth plan a reality.

Your personal growth plan should include passive and active elements.

You will need to think of books you can read and seminars you can go to that will help you build your leadership and business skills. And make sure to include books about general personal development and psychology as well. Then you need to find ways to put your knowledge to the test through actions. Find outlets to practice the leadership skills you’re seeking to cultivate. These can be fun things: become a coach, start a blog, organize a trip with friends. Do anything that will get you actively honing yourself to be the leader you wish others were.

Professional growth has its roots in one’s career. A career is what a person is hired to do based on what he is qualified to do. Once that’s in place, growth is supported by efficiency and quality of your work. You may also find time to further your skills beyond what you are already qualified to do by studying part-time courses or online diplomas that may help you gain promotions. Of course, you have to let human resources know of any qualifications you may have attained along the way.

Personal growth is a little harder to pin down. Ones relationships with people is usually has the strongest impression. This is followed by ones personal relationship like a girlfriend or a spouse, and then children. Healthy relationships means that you benefit emotionally from their company, whether it is pleasant or unpleasant.

What one learns and gains is different from person to person. Simply put, you gain a stable job and income, plus a happy family of your own. If you don’t value either of those then it’s not important for you to do anything at all.

      Thanks for reading!

Before including random things in your growth plan, do some reflecting. What skills would you like to strengthen? What part of teaching would you like to improve? Is there something that interests you, but you haven’t had time to include in your lesson plans? How’s your classroom management? How’s your school to home communication? What role do new technological advances play in your curriculum?

The reason I suggest you reflect on your teaching is so that you can work on developing the area of your choice. This way, you will be working on something that’s your choice and not an administrators.

My goals have usually included something with technology and something with classroom management. These two areas are always something one can improve upon. There are so many new studies and cool gadgets that the work in these areas is never ending.

Check out some professional growth classes either online or in your community. I enjoy taking classes during the summer through the University of San Diego Professional Growth course selection. If you’re not in CA, they also offer online courses.

Hope this information is of some help. Enjoy reflecting and picking items that you would like to further develop.
