Why the development of self –awareness is vital to obtain personal growth

Author: Edward MacEachern

It is vital to our well being to have goals in life. Having a fixed goal like losing weight or quitting smoking is great. However, many people feel dissatisfaction when they fail to obtain their goals. Therefore, it is important to consider what is occurring in our mind.  This can be achieved by standing back and looking at ourselves objectively.

We can strive to overcome dissatisfaction by adopting a holistic approach. This approach takes both our mind and our body into consideration. A person’s emotional processes, attitudes and values, beliefs and motivations are interconnected.  Personal development can nurture the positive aspect of you to grow. In addition, it can discourage the less savoury aspects of our personality.  It can therefore be used to improve our general well being.

Let’s look at a hypothetical situation. Imagine that you have decided to lose weight. Your goal is to lose two and a half a stone in six months.  However, you are only able to loss two stone.  You feel disconsolate. However, the process has made more driven and more motivated. You have higher levels of concentration and a more committed character. In short, you have become exactly the sort of person many others aspire to be despite not reaching your goal.

There are other benefits from undertaking the journey of personal development.  Many people are dissatisfied because they have failed to reach to level of achievement they want to obtain.  The feeling of dissatisfaction is the first stage of self awareness. It is self awareness that helps to form the cornerstone of personal development.

What do I mean by this? Well, if you learn to know yourself, you learn to understand yourself. Once you understand yourself, you can take action to correct any areas of dissatisfaction.  It is like going on a voyage of self discovery. You return from the voyage as a wiser and more confident individual. The major benefit of self-awareness is that it reveals what you are capable of.

Few people truly understand the importance of self –awareness.  Once you have developed it, you can plan the way you tackle goals more effectively.  Self-awareness is about mastering growth and development. Developing a heightened sense of self-awareness through introspection and honest self- appraisal is one of the single most important things you can do in your life.

Conquering general dissatisfaction can seem difficult at times.  However, setbacks are an important part of growth and development.  Learning to deal with setbacks can only help to make you a stronger person. We all have good days and bad days. Make the following promise to yourself.  No matter how dissatisfied you feel now life is only going to get better.  Make a fresh start every day and you will be one step closer to achieving your goals.

Is the Riverland a valuable eco-tourism destination?
Eco-tourism focuses on local cultures, wilderness adventures, volunteering, personal growth and learning new ways to live on our vulnerable planet. It is typically defined as travel to destinations where the flora, fauna, and cultural heritage are the primary attractions. Responsible ecotourism includes programs that minimize the adverse effects of traditional tourism on the natural environment, and enhance the cultural integrity of local people. Therefore, in addition to evaluating environmental and cultural factors, initiatives by hospitality providers to promote recycling, energy efficiency, water re-use, and the creation of economic opportunities for local communities are an integral part of ecotourism

Why is our society so lacking in compassion towards one another?
Why are people so quick to judge people as good or bad, inferior or superior. What makes people believe they have the right to assume things about people without even trying to know them? How come so few people put effort into personal growth and learning about the different types of people in our lives? What is the evolutionary or emmotional benefit? If there is one, does that still hold true today?

I’ll tell you why, because people want to be in their own little world.

they don’t give a crap what of what is happening outside their homes, outside their nations. All they care is to move on, focus on their own families, focus on their own jobs, and $$$$$$$$$$.

Why do they do it? It makes them feel better about themselves. They put down other people, and they judge them according to their own beliefs, so they can look better, and so people that are so easily drawn can look up to them.

What makes them believe they have that right? Well, naturally, we are in this world to judge according to what we personally believe is right. Some say only God has the right to judge others, yet they still do.

Our society is filled with hypocrites.

Would you get an abortion if you felt there was no other choice?
I’ve had one and it changed the course of my entire life. I will always believe in women’s rights and the freedom to decide what is best for our bodies. What I have found over the years is that the decision to have an abortion altered my entire life course -completely. It may not be something we are conscious of when we are young. The decision to do something like this has serious karmic repercussions. It has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with spiritual evolution. There are many young people who understand this concept and many who do not. The path of the soul or spiritual evolution is humanity’s actual purpose on the Earth. This is why we are here. There may be so much more than what you are perceiving as reality. When we are young we are not always aware of these truths. Hind sight is a traditional form of acknowledging widsom which has been acquired through experience. This is a very long road to take and sometimes it truly is the only way to achieve the lesson or the wisdom. The truth is that when we open the mind and observe a different perspective, the opportunity for change has room to manifest. We have to give these opportunities the space to be created. If we are convinced that one way of thinking or being is the only way, than nothing can change. Why not give it a try? You don’t have to believe this of course, we always have a choice.

When we make a decision while under pressure or feeling desperate, the outcome may not be what we had hoped for. There are many people out there getting pregnant without a conscience. Sexual relationships are extremely powerful. They really have an impact on our destiny. The decisions we make while we are involved in sexual relationship have life long consequences that alter the positive outcomes of our life. It is a great learning experience.

If you are struggling with this decision get counseling and work on your personal issues. Work with the issues that affect your emotions and journal them. If you plan to keep your baby make sure that if you have not already begun the process of personal growth, that you begin it now. Learn who you are, how you feel about your own parents and what you feel is important for your own growth and happiness. Adoption is another option that can be life enriching. Personal growth, learning how to parent the self and nurture the self is necessary for all of these decisions because there is no going back with any of them. http://www.Soundstrue.com has a wonderful library on personal growth. Good luck out there!

I am surrounded by family and friends who have experienced misscarriages, still borns, and infertility. These people still grieve for the children they have lost or not been able to have.

I understand abortion is inviting to some women and I wont sit here and judge anyone who considers it, as i have experienced the all consuming fear of bringing up a child.

I will however say this, it is my own personal belief that abortion is a very selfish act and spiritually and morally wrong. If you are mature enough to lay down and have sex with a man and as a result of that become pregnant then you are mature enough to give birth to a child wether you keep it or adopt it to a loving family who are desperate to have children.

I am feminist, and i believe in women’s rights but what about the child’s rights?

What do you think of this ad? Would it convince you to pick me? :) ?
I’ll be charging €20 an hour (do you think this is too much/ little?) – this info will be in the title.

    the ad:

I am a fully qualified Life Coach and am looking to gain 35hours of additional experience in the area as I would like to join an accrediting body.

The first session is usually an hour and a half (the extra half hour is free) and each additional session is an hour.

I am based on the Southside and can travel to the City Centre if necessary.

Coaching is a powerful alliance that gets from who you are now, to who you want to be. It facilitates personal learning, growth and discovery through focus on you, unlocking your
potential and exploring possibilities. People come to coaching for lots of different things but the bottom line is change.

If you feel coaching might be for you…please email or call/text me
This will be on gumtree btw :)

Oh dear! Sorry but it sounds far too much like one of those dreadful adverts that says “do you want to make money by working at home”. It really needs some work on the content and on the grammar. To sell any service you have to make it sound interesting to people and, unfortunately, that doesn’t sound at all interesting. First of all you give your reasons for doing it, which are academic. Then you talk about the cost. Then you say where you live but that you will travel “if necessary” – you should just say what areas you cover, never say “if necessary”. Then you tell people how they can benefit from the service. But you never say what it is, how it works, what is involved etc. It sounds very vague and just gives the impression that you don’t do anything specific other than take people’s money! People want to know exactly what they are buying, and they won’t contact you unless they are interested – so say something interesting in your advert. Get their attention.

what does it mean to plan and direct personal and professional growth? what can you learn and gain from it?
this is really important for me to know this can you help me?

Professional growth has its roots in one’s career. A career is what a person is hired to do based on what he is qualified to do. Once that’s in place, growth is supported by efficiency and quality of your work. You may also find time to further your skills beyond what you are already qualified to do by studying part-time courses or online diplomas that may help you gain promotions. Of course, you have to let human resources know of any qualifications you may have attained along the way.

Personal growth is a little harder to pin down. Ones relationships with people is usually has the strongest impression. This is followed by ones personal relationship like a girlfriend or a spouse, and then children. Healthy relationships means that you benefit emotionally from their company, whether it is pleasant or unpleasant.

What one learns and gains is different from person to person. Simply put, you gain a stable job and income, plus a happy family of your own. If you don’t value either of those then it’s not important for you to do anything at all.

      Thanks for reading!
