Performance Management System – The Key Performance Indicators

Organizational control practices have evolved in line with the changes in both the external and internal business environment. However, the main issue of the traditional management control system, i.e. ensuring the organizational members act in the best interest of the organization, still remains at the heart of the current performance management system. In contrast to the traditional control system which focuses only on accounting control and ignores the strategic and operational control, the performance management system is a more integrated system and it encompasses the following key areas :

1. Evaluation of performance against the key objectives which are deemed to be central to the organizational success.

2. The measurement of the organization’s process and activities that are implemented to achieve its plans and strategies.

3. The setting of appropriate targets and level of performance require to achieve objectives (1) and (2) above.

4. The rewards and penalties given to employees for their success or failure in meeting the set targets.

5. The feedback from the system is a requirement to ensure that the organization learns and adapts to the current environment.

These key issues on performance management systems complement various other management tools such as, value based management, balanced scorecard and the use of other performance-based measures, like economic value aded (EVA), economic earnings (EE) and other measures. For example, all the issues addressed in the framework are encompassed within the value based management system.

My employer terminated me when I notified them we would have to report to the FAA for falsified org chart?
We were required to notify the FAA of any management change or quality system change per 14 CFR 21.137. Is this covered whistleblower protection under AIR 21 since I reported this to the FAA after I was terminated but notified the employer prior to be terminated?

What do you see as the most important lesson here about change in management in this article?

There is actually a “Who Moved My Cheese” video that I’ve seen about a million times (we show it for training purposes sometimes).

The main idea is that if you resist change, you’ll get left behind. When change happens, whether good or bad, you should roll with it and find ways to make it work instead of sitting around, complaining about it, and waiting for things to go back to the way they were. If you sit around waiting for things to go back to the way they were and you don’t embrace the change, then you’ll never get anywhere and you’ll miss out on possibly even better things.

How do I change the category of my group from ADULT?
I moderate a group for http://www.freecycle.org, operating in Delaware. The person who initially helped us setup the group a couple of years ago set it in the ADULT category, only because one of the requirements for participation is that you be 18+. This has caused us to get placed in a category that is simply not appropriate for our group and we have been asked by the freecycle.org folks to update our category from ADULT to RECYCLING, but we are unable to do so in the management panel. We are assuming that once you have been labeled an ADULT group, you cannot change it? With over 1,000 members we are hoping that we do not have to start another group to get out of the ADULT category? We have NO adult content.

    Can anyone advise?
