Distance Learning Pathology Programs – Augmenting Your Potential for Professional Development
Author: Jim Zorn
Clinical Pathology is a vast subject and distance learning pathology programs cater to almost all areas of clinical pathology. The Speech Language Pathology program would lead to a certification in Speech-Language Pathology, while the Plant Pathology program would address the need for a certification in that area. These courses are directed towards working professionals who can complete their course work without leaving their jobs in the pursuit of studies. A combination of online coursework with practical clinical experiences in the current workplace makes these courses ideal for those who want to acquire skills on the fly.
Types of Distance Learning Pathology ProgramsLaboratory technicians with AS certification or CLT/MLT can take up a Bachelor of Science program for the development of their intellectual and manipulative competencies and attainment of professional values and characteristics. They will be able to take all the didactic courses online and a clinical rotation in their geographical area. The Speech Language Pathology program can be an Assistant Certificate Program, Bachelors or Masters in Communication disorders or even a PhD in the subject, provided that the student enrolling for the program satisfies the necessary eligibility criteria of the university.
Plant Pathology distance learning programs are offered at the undergraduate level and cover microorganisms, viruses and environmental factors with emphasis on basic principles of plant disease development, disease control and diagnosis. There are yet other programs, which are designed to train persons who can be recruited as school based clinicians. Build-up courses to hone the skills of such recruits are also available with distance learning pathology programs.
Universities Offering Courses and Programs
The University of Cincinnati CLS Program is designed for working laboratory technicians who hold an AS or Certification in CLT/MLT. The Armstrong Atlantic State University, the University of Arkanas, St Petersburg College, George Washington University, the Barton Community College, the University of Kentucky, the University of Texas and many more Universities provide alternate routes to medical laboratory technicians to earn their bachelor’s or master’s degree in clinical pathology or plant pathology.
For those who wish to specialize in speech language pathology, the Ohio Department of Education and the University of Cincinnati offer Audiology programs designed for clinicians who are operating at school level in speech-language therapy. Such persons can earn a Masters in Speech Learning therapy. The University of Akron, the Ohio State University, the Florida State University and a number of other Universities offer undergraduate and masters programs in Speech-Language programs by distance learning.
If you are a Medical Laboratory Technican, a Speech Language Therapist or a Plant Pathologist who is interested in distance learning pathology programs, your choice of university and degree can be in accordance with your individual needs, your geographical location, or can be tailored to suit your pace!

why is important to use multi professional agency s in the learning and development of children?
I am currently working on NVQ level 3 in childrens care learning and development and am stuck on this question
As we all know when seeking a doctor for a specific illness we have a specialist in that particular field of medicine; this is the same when it comes to the development of our children because they are each different and have different needs tha t require a specific attention. For example, if a child is is blind he/she would need a teacher who is qualified to teach him/her, if the child has a learning disability he/ she would need a specialist in that field to accomodate them. This is why there is on going classes and trainings in various fields regarding our children. Some people don’t know what to do if a child has an allergic reaction to something versus children who have special needs. Certainly as the adult one would want options to select from as to who would or what agency would be better qualified to tend to his/her childs needs.
defenition of lifelong learning and professional development?
As a teacher, it means that once you have qualified you carry on learning more, keeping on top of new schemes/ways of teaching and learning – your degree is only the start of learning how to be a good teacher and your knowledge should grow and develop each year. I’m sure it is the same for other professions too.
Help needed on Children’s Care, Learning and Development (Childcare) NVQ3?
I need a hand with the following questions please – Struggling a little
-Give 3 examples of how you can support and respect peoples differences in your day to day work.
-Give 3 examples of how you have changed children’s routines or met parents wishes?
-Give 2 examples of when and whom you would disclose information you are given. What would you say to the person who gave you the information before you disclosed it to someone else?
-If another professional asked you for information what would you do?
-If a relative or neighbour asked for information about a child in your care what would you do?
Even if you just ask one question I will be most greatful.
Thanks so much
A child at the nursery where I work always came in with a dummy in her mouth, to change this routine, as she came in I would meet her and while removing her dummy i would distract her while saying lets go see the fish in the tank or what would you like to paint. After several days of doing this she came in and passed me the dummy herself. I would say this was changing her routine
Another time y meeting the parents wishes her child did not eat peanut in nursery as the child had allergies Hopes this helps
hey is anyone doin nvq level 2 in childrens care, learning and development, at the moment, if so could u help?
with this question for a professional disssucion? ” How to use the environment to promote positive images of people who may be discriminated against.”
I teach Kinder/Prep and I use the environment to promote positive images by:
Having pictures of people with varying skin tones.
Showing pictures of all types of families children with a mum, children with a Dad, Children with two Mums, Children with grandparents etc.
Show the different ways families celebrate Christmas depending on their religious or social beliefs.
Pictures of men in the kitchen (which some children don’t see)
Pictures of women fixing the car.
I don’t know if this helps. Good luck with it.
to what extent do provision for cont’d professional development at ur school address learning need of teachers
Not all of them. Professional development is planned by a group of teacher leaders, and they are not always in touch with what the rest would like to have. Also, time constraints make attending sessions tricky. We have three literacy coaches helping us, but it is difficult to share them in a staff of sixty. I do think a survey of some sort would go a long way towards clarifying our PD needs for the administration.
