Second Language Benefits – How Language Learning Can Benefit You Mentally
Author: Hans Strahl
By mastering a second language, you mind and eyes are opened for a new world, enable you to be promoted in job or find new opportunities for your personal development or you business. These advantages of learning a new language are indeed true.
But they are already publicly known and people don’t like to be preached. You must have been trying to avoid them.Language learning improves your mental activity.
Don’t take learning languages as a torture or a damage of your brain cells. On the contrary, the reactivity of our brain cells can be improved. The reason is that the blood will gather into the head when we use our brain to learn things. Blood brings oxygen with it. Oxygen is not only necessary for our body but also good in activating the cells.
Therefore, language learning acts like an oxygen pump for our head. That’s why people say, “The more you learn, the cleverer you will be”.
For this reason, you might say that any learning can do that to you. That’s right. But learning languages is something meaning more than just learning.
Learning a second language means a complete change of reading, listening and speaking habits. If you are learning a language that is completely different from your native language, it means more of a change than the difference in word composition. It means a whole turn over of the way of thinking. That’s probably why old people with the foreign language speaking ability are reported to delay in suffering from senile dementia.

How should I target my resume for a job in learning and development?
I am looking to change careers from being a teacher to working in a company in their learning and development department. For example, being a corporate trainer.
What kind of things can I add to my resume to make me an ideal candidate?
I would look at the job requirements for a training job that you’re interested in, and make sure you highlight skills and experience that you’ve acquired from teaching, that they also want in a training position. I’d definitely mention computer training you’ve received or taught, on-going education you’ve received, conferences you’ve attended, awards you’ve received, in additon to topics you’ve taught or been trained in.
If you’ve taught adults in any capacity, even in a volunteer position, I would describe it, since adult training is different from teaching children or young adults. Corporate training often involves working with managers and technical staff, so I’d highlight any experiences you’ve had with those. A trainer often has to assess client needs, develop courseware, deliver training, and evaluate training. I’d highlight course instructional design that you’ve developed, highlight the years you’ve delivered classroom instruction, and list any evaluation instruments you’ve developed. I’d list all the software you have experience with (Word, Excel, etc), and it would help if you became familiar with online instruction, since many companies are adding it to save costs. At minimum you should have taken an online course so you can intelligently discuss it.
Good luck!
what kind of jobs can I get with a BS in Child Learning and Development?
education (probably early childhood)
psychology
social work
family medicine
public health
family law
public policy
What type of jobs can you get in child development or learning about children with mental issues?
I would like to learn more about the development of the human brain and I”m not sure what type of career path to take. I thought about psychology but thats too much schooling. I am 22, full time job and I own a home, so a part time job is out of the question. I’ve been looking into the local community colleges. Any ideas on what type of career you can learning about the development of humans/children and/or mentally retarded people?
I’m afraid the main choice is psychology. Then you can specify child psychology or become an educational psychologist. You can get carework with children, or work in Special Needs in schools, but neither is well paid and as I said the main qualification that improves your prospects would be psychology. It may be “too much schooling” but it’s an important and challenging career.
Can anybody provide any tips and suggestions on getting my first few web development jobs?
Hi. I have been learning how to write code in php and mysql. I am becoming pretty proficient. Now I would like to find jobs so that I can make money. Does anybody have any tips on how to get my first few jobs? I also know xhtml, css and a bit of javascript for when I need it.
Sounds like you have some great skills (although personally I dont like PHP, but thats just me). If you want a job in web development I would suggest running your own portfolio/blog site which can basically “advertise you” to them; However this would take time to build, and to get people interested in (although in the long term it’s good).
If you want immediate work then you can post on related forums that you can do some freelance work, or just go out there and contact some companies.
Personally I got my first freelace web development job by a company just contacting me through the contact page of my site..
Whatever you end up doing, Good Luck!
