How to Increase Your Memory Power

Use your brain more (duh!) Sounds easy. But how many times do you reach for the keyboard to search for something you already know but can’t be bothered to 00004000 remember? How many times do you use a calculator, even for really simple calculations, rather than mental arithmetic? Set yourself a goal to complete a new puzzle each day. Whether it’s a crossword, Sudoku, a brainteaser or whatever.

Do not play the music you are memorizing without taking frequent rests. In establishing permanent memory, it is much more effective to memorize in repeated short sessions than to memorize in one continuous session. Play the music that you’ve just learned several times so that you’ve developed somewhat a comfortable memory of it. Then walk away from the piano and give your mind time to unwind from the exercise; this resting period should last 10 minutes or more. When you return to the piano and try to play the music again, you should feel more challenged than you did before taking the break. The mental effort you make in restoring the notes at this time will greatly reinforce your memory. Do this repeatedly during your practice sessions.

first remember that the brain is like any other part of the body, the more you exercise it the better it works.. so read, do puzzles and brain teasers.. that sort of thing.

Next, remember that the brain, like the body, is a machine.. what fuel you put in has an effect on how it performs.. eat healthy and drink lots of water.. also ginkgo biloba is said to help increase blood flow to the brain, aiding in memory.

EDIT: I wanted to come back and add in Physical exercise. If you are in good shape, you will have less stress and the brain will have less to deal with, and deal with thing faster.. it will help your mental functioning.

doing little things everyday will surely increase your memory and brain power.

for instance, i read somewhere, try to take a shower with your eyes completely closed. that way you have to rely solely on your memory as to where everything is. be careful, though.

secondly, play math games such as sudoku at least once a day. these games are great for your brain. they teach you logic skills and math skills, which, in effect, will help your memory skills.

you should also try to learn a new word each day. by doing this, youre increasing your vocabulary, but also exercising your brain in a way that it’s not normally exercised. there are a million more daily activities for you to do that will help, look them up online.
