Georgia Teacher Certification Exams Are Helpful In Teaching Classroom Conduct

Author: Darren Ferguson

In the past most little kids want to be a banker, an astronaut, a veterinarian, or even a professional athlete when they grow up, not many children look at the rest of their life and say “hey I want to be a teacher one day”. Well, the world is changing and those children who once said that are now beginning to graduate from college with teaching degrees. People’s views about teaching have changed dramatically from what they used to be to what they are now, teachers are also beginning to have the freedom to teach what they want to teach which many teachers love. Although there are guidelines that every teacher has to follow many teachers now are allowed to go within those guidelines and pick and chose from topics to teach to their students.

One of the places where this is possible is in Georgia.  A teacher with a Georgia teacher certification is able to pick what they want to teach their class within reason. Although there are always laws governing teachers, most teachers know what is allowed and what isn’t allowed. In order to get a Georgia teacher certification there are many steps that teachers have to go through that is comprised of exams, classes, and prevention classes in order to make the teaches as knowledgeable as possible about all aspects of the class room. One of the cool things about these classes necessary for a Georgia teacher certification is that for some of the mandatory classes it is required for the student to student teach and observe students in a classroom so that they get a good idea as to how a classroom is run, this is normally done by splitting a semester into two halves, during the first one a student will observe a younger class and in the second half a student will observe an older class.

This is very helpful for the students because instead of having to guess at what age group they would want to teach they get to experience and teach it first hand. This real life experience is very beneficial for students who are going into the teaching field, and luckily this is a requirement in most teaching programs. It is through these observations and classes that students learn what is appropriate as far as dressing, and talking about during a classroom setting, because you are molding young minds when you are teaching you have to watch what you say at all times. Young children are listening to everything you say when you are teaching, even if you don’t think they are, so it is very important to use classroom language when you are with young children this means no swearing, cussing, or discussing inappropriate things.

    ESL Teacher Certification in Texas?
    My husband would like to teacher either Spanish or ESL in the state of Texas. He doesn’t have a B.A. degree, but he does have a Master of Divinity degree (Yes, I know it’s an unrelated degree, and how he skipped the B.A. is a long story.) He is a native Spanish speaker though. What is the best way for him to go about getting certified in Texas? He doesn’t want to have to spend another couple of years in school if it can be avoided. Does anyone have any suggestions about the quickest route for him to obtain certification?

      Check out this website…it is the Texas state teacher certification site. There you will find out all about certification…the requirements, etc. Good luck!

    What certifications do I need in order to teach ESL in Texas?
    I’m a retired school teacher of 25 years in Texas. I’m looking into teaching ESL part-time. I can make a lot more money teaching ESL than I can just substitute teaching. What certifications do I need to teach in Texas and how long does it take?

      ESL is an endorsement area in Texas. As you are already certified, you would need approximately 4 courses and the appropriate licensure test. You could fit it in within a year if you have a college nearby which is approved by the state with the endorsement area and which offers the classes on a regular basis.

    An aspiring teacher with a few questions for current teachers?
    I am in Texas, getting my teaching certification, starting my blocks in the fall.

    Is it true that the job market is really hard for elementary? My certification is for EC-6 Generalist, but I am really starting to hear from various sources that I should not expect to get a job.

    This worries me. Is this true? What do you think I should do to make myself more marketable?
    What would be the least expensive way to diversify my Portfolio without putting in another two years to get certified for something else (such as ESL/spe ed/4-8 etc)?
    If I were to get certified in these areas, would I have to start from scratch?

    I do not mind taking more time, but taking up another 2 years just seems brutal.
    Would landing a job as a teachers aid be plausible?
    Some advice please?

      In fact its bad at all levels in San Antonio. The teachers in my district have already been told to expect more cuts in round two – 2011-2012 school year. We just switched to back to seven classes per day to cut more positions. Don’t count on teacher-aid positions either, for they too have been cut. My advice is to have back up career plan other than teaching.

    How can I get certified in other areas of teaching if I already have my EC-4 Generalist?
    I just graduated from UTA and I have my Texas EC-4 generalist certification. I’m taking the ESL supplemental test in August so that I will also be ESL certified. I’m wondering if it is that easy to be 4-8 certified or HS certified… just studying for and taking the certification test. I almost have enough hours for a Spanish major, so I’m thinking I could become certified in Spanish and teach junior high or high school spanish. Is it that easy?

      As far as I can tell I would say yes. This is what I could find on the State Board of Education website. You could always call a local college and talk to the education department. They should be able to answer the question. Good luck to you on the ESL test. I just took it a couple of weeks ago.

      3. Additional Certification Based on Examination

      A teacher who holds an appropriate Texas classroom teaching certificate and a bachelor’s degree may add classroom certification areas by successfully completing the appropriate certification examination(s) for the area(s) sought. Certification by examination is not available for:

      1.) initial certification;
      2.) career and technology certification based on skill and work experience;
      3.) a class of certificate other than classroom teacher (e.g. School Counselor, Principal, Superintendent, Learning Resources/School Librarian, Educational Diagnostician);
      4.) a certificate for which no certification examination has been developed

    How to be certified in deaf ed?
    I took an alternative certification course to become a certified teacher (EC-4th/ESL, generalist). But I am somewhat interested in becoming certified in deaf ed. Or learning sign language and becoming certified to work in the school system with deaf students. I live in Texas (dallas/ft worth). Does anyone know where I would need to start? I have graduated college with a bachelors already. Do you have to get a degree in that area? Any info would be appreciated. I tried googling this but I don’t think it gave me what i was looking for.
