How Educators Can Practice Effective Classroom Management
Author: Vince Welsh
Classroom management is a top concern for recent education graduates and those considering going into the teaching field. Creating an effective classroom environment can be difficult for new teachers but there are techniques these teachers can practice to improve and be able to practice effective classroom management.
We can break down the techniques for effective classroom management into four parts:First, establish your goals – you must know what you want your classroom to be like, but you must also know what it should not be. Be clear and precise when you write these out; you need to be sure of what you want if you expect others to follow the guidelines that you lay out.
Second, share your goals – tell your students what you want the classroom to be (and what you don’t want it to be). Make sure that they understand how an effective classroom will work (ideally) and that they understand that an effective classroom is beneficial for them as well as for the teacher. They will learn better if they make it easier for you to teach.
Third, give feedback – when you get what you want from your students, acknowledge it, but don’t praise it excessively. If you praise them too much for doing something that should be the classroom standard, they will learn to practice good behavior only when rewarded.
Fourth, react to inappropriate actions – if a student begins to go against your guidelines for an effective classroom, make sure that you make it clear that that behavior is not acceptable. Don’t overreact, but don’t let it slide either.
There are a few more techniques you can employ for effective classroom management. A room arrangement that promotes good behavior is one way to implement your plan. Make sure you can observe all the students at all times, especially from your desk. Classroom materials should be easily accessible, and you may want to decorate the room so that it is more inviting. Another way to succeed in your plan is to continue to remind the students of your guidelines, and make sure that you do not set out rules that you won’t enforce later. Be clear and unambiguous in your feedback at all times, including feedback on homework assignments and tests or other assessments.
If you start with the four techniques stated above (establishing your goals, sharing your goals, giving constructive feedback, and managing bad behavior), you will have a good basis for practicing effective classroom management. Then, create arrange the classroom in a manner that will help you manage your students. Set expectations for how you want your students to behave, and follow through. Make sure to explain everything carefully so that everyone understands. Instruct in a manner that is unambiguous and clear. Try to minimize bad behavior as much as possible. When you do have to discipline a student, make sure that the student understands why you are taking those actions. In general, mild punishments are just as effective as more severe ones (and they don’t make the student resentful towards the teacher).
If you follow the principles outline here, you are well on your way to mastering effective classroom management. Practice is the best way to improve and create an effective classroom.

Educators, what trends do see in education toward teaching, learning climates etc.?
What types of things are your higher level adminstrators asking of you? What is the focus of your professional development? How do you see things changing? How do you feel this influences learning?
This is a good question. Teachers are bogged down with so many demands from administrators to teach this, add that, keep a folder for that work … too much. There is not enough time in a day to teach all the mandates that the district thinks need to be included in a school day. You are also expected to serve on committees and come to school on evenings when you don’t get paid. Most teachers I know spend at least one weekend day doing school work besides working a couple of hours every evening. Or they go in two hours early or stay two hours late.
My district has phenomenal professional development opportunities. They provide workshops during the school day and will get a substitute teacher for you. Some classes are offered right after school too.
Our state mandates that you get so many professional development hours every four years to be recertified. These can be through district classes or college classes. It is essential that teachers keep up on new trends and different strategies in teaching in order to do a good job.
How are things changing? Well I think a lot of kids are going through school without learning much. Eventually I think things will go back to the three “R’s” without all the fluff, or we’ll have a lot of uneducated kids running the planet.
help me to design a metorphoric sculpture.?
The objective of this metaphoric sculpture is to describe a particular stage of professional or personal development of an early childhood educator.ca use a combination of diferrent materials for the design.
Only you can design a metaphoric sculpture. That is the point of the project.
Do you have the freedom to use whatever materials you want?
Are you going to become an early childhood educator?
One idea I have is to do a self-portrait sculpture that projects you at a certain stage. You could do the basic image with materials like wire and paper mache. Then surround yourself with objects you would find at that stage of your teaching career — blackboards, balls, toys. Search for “found” objects that creatively relate to your goal.
Email me if you would like a sounding board for whatever project you decide on. I never mind being a mentor, but you have to do the hard work. That said, don’t make the project too difficult.
The result of any metaphorical sculpture should be easy for others to “read” and understand.
Child Abuse Paper. Can i get a second or third opposition?
Running Head: CHILD ABUSE REFLECTION 1
CLDDV 109: Child, Family, and Community
Authors Note
Reflection Summary: To Prevent Child abuse in homes and at the work place the National Association for the Education of Young Children has come up with guide lines to inform and educated. Adopt policies and practices that promote close partnerships with families. Promote standards of excellence for early childhood
programs. Provide families a variety of supportive services. Advocate for children, families, and teachers in
community and society. Collaborate with other professionals in the community. Understand their legal and ethical obligation to recognize and report suspicions of abuse.
Running Head: CHILD ABUSE REFLECTION 2
Child Abuse is a on going problem. As time goes on it becomes our job as educators and citizens to put a stop to the abuse. I have done a lot of volunteering and have witnessed a few child abuse cases. My feelings on the subject are very emotional. To know a person is capable of inflicting abuse on someone that cant defend their self. To see a child come in to the class room and be very shy and afraid of contact of others, or to be very angry at everyone and everything.
The involvement of the family in children schooling or events that the whole family can enjoy. Such as Class Carnivals with face painting and all the parents spending the day with their kid to show off their child’s work and such. Can help to stop or notice a possibility of child abuse. At these events we have the opportunity to view and talk to the whole family and observe the family together. This gives educators the chance to catch any signs of neglect or abuse of any kind.
Being a educator it is your responsibility to watch and investigate any sign of abuse toward a child. To follow procedure is also key in being a registered abuse reporter. To adopt policies and practices of family partnership. So as to build knowledge toward one another with family and educators. To insure the development of your child through high standards of education and raising the success rate of that child. To inform the family of service that are available to aid the family is the event of a emergency. To know when the policies are impairing the child and to insure the well being of the child. For the empowerment of the family and well being. And To know know the child abuse laws for any sign of abuse should be reported as soon as possible to the right authority.
IS THIS A OK REFLECTION
I grade these things in my class all the time and I’d make you do this over. You have lots incomplete sentences and generally non-standard English–never a good thing for a future teacher–and I can’t tell if you have any reference to the article you’re supposed to have read.
Put less of your feelings into this and more of the guidelines. How are the guidelines different from what you and the parents might expect? What kinds of records would you need to keep? What signs of abuse are the hardest to spot? What are your responsibilities in your state about reporting? Are, for example, you required to report abuse you see at a mall or at your cousin’s house just because you’re a teacher? A friend of mine almost lost her license for not reporting her own husband’s behavior in a bowling alley. Could something similar happen to you?
RE: CHILD ABUSE PAPER?
Child Abuse is a on going situation that has been developing right under our noses. As time goes on it becomes our job as educators and citizens to put a stop to any sign of neglect or abuse. I have done a lot of volunteering at pre-schools and have witnessed both. Neglect when the child has to fend for its self. Abuse when the child cant not defend their self from the abuser. Their are steps and procedures that are done to handle every case properly.
The involvement of the family in schooling or events that the whole family can participate together as a unit. Is key to the success of building family awareness and respect for one another. Such as Class Carnivals where the parents are asked to spend the day with their child. To see their development and growth in social skills. Which allows educators a opportunity to notice neglect or child abuse. At the events we have the opportunity to view and talk to the whole family and observe the family as a whole. To better understand the behavioral habits of the said “child”.
Being a educator it is your responsibility to watch and investigate any sign of abuse toward a child. To follow procedure is also key in being a registered abuse reporter. To adopt policies and practices of family partnership to build respect with each other family and educators. To insure the development of your child through high standards of education and raising the success rate of every child. To inform the family of service that are available to aid the family is the event of a emergency. To know when the policies are impairing the family and to insure the well being of the child. And To know know the child abuse laws for any sign of abuse should be reported as soon as possible to the right authority.
I understand the need to insure the success of the children from personal experience. I grew up in a rural area knowing my chances of success were slim. But the persistence of my educators to better my self. Helped to prepare me for the future that i know hold dearly. With out educators to inform and teach as a child and as a family their would be know balance between the two.
i have to reflect on the artical which was Prevention of Child Abuse in Early Childhood Programs
and the Responsibilities of Early Childhood Professionals
to Prevent Child Abuse.
and to write a personal relection
how this
that is really good, it really gets your personal point across, it is very well written and really informative, top marks, you did well
I NEED HELP PLEASEEE!!!?
I really need help with this assignment, i’ve been stuck on it for a month…
For this job, you are to prepare a standard block style business letter to the Admissions Office at the University of South Florida. Mr. Yates, who is the Director of Professional Development at OCI, would like information regarding continuing education course offerings for OCI employees.
For this job, you will listen to and transcribe the following dictation. You may use your “pause” button as necessary.
http://escambia.flvs.net/webdav/educator_ccc_v7/module3/imagmod3/3_07a.mp3
The address for the University of South Florida is:
4202 E. Fowler Ave
Tampa, FL 33620
Use the current date.
Your letter should follow the standard rules for a block letter.
Just Google the format for a “standard block style” business letter.
Then, in a new word document,
plug in the name of the recipient (Mr. Yates, Director of Professional Development, c/o Admissions Office, University of South Florida, or something to that effect). Write the body of the letter as directed, using the information transcribed (copied down) from the video you linked to. Put the address and the current date in the correct place in the letter, spellcheck, and you’re done. It’s basically just writing a letter using the information they give you.
