How To Approach Team Building

Although you dress the same in a company uniform like your officemates do or might even have the same educational background, have almost the same principles in life or even aim at the same career ambitions, it does not mean that you think and act alike. There have been vast studies on how people perceive things to discover how people can relate more effectively to one another. Once they know the different approaches, they believe this could be the key to having successful working relationships. For example, there are some needs for women (maternity leaves) that differ from men. If these studies are clear to everyone, difficulties are avoided.

Needless to say, without proper understanding and communication, infighting among employees is bound to happen. Disputes in the workplace are crippling and it leads to an unhealthy surrounding. Without relational dynamics, nothing gets done right. A hostile environment, whether it’s a big or a small company, will experience little job motivation, waste of labor time, a terrible quality of the work done, and even skilled employees leaving the company if the company and workers do not improve the situation.

To create a more harmonious space, effective interpersonal communication of the workforce and also open communication between managers and employees should always be practiced. With the potential in this kind of interaction with Team Building, they may be able to create successful relationships among the employees of the company. You can start by forming some team guidelines and applying these in the workplace.

*Have regular meetings. Start with ice breakers that would set a more relaxed mood for everybody;
*Make exciting and fun activities that group them into teams to help them get to know one another. You can also incorporate cheer teams and fans;
*Have work-related issues in the discussions. Be open with different ideas. Avoiding real issues only worsens the situation;
*Let the employees work out issues on their own. But if they are not reaching a resolution, use the help of a mediator.
*Have a facilitator that can help forge a more meaningful discussion and reach a good solution agreeable to every member.

With these, you would be avoiding a world of damaged business but cultivating a world of interaction.

    How do I market myself as a design/architect consultant in Jamaica?
    How to find Designers/Architects in Jamaica?

    How do I market myself as a consulting designer/architect for companies building in Jamaica? I am trying to plan a move to JA from the US and I would like to stay in the same career field of design and architecture. I know there are many overseas companies building in Jamaica right now and I think that is a good thing for me. I would like to market my skills as a freelancing consultant to the companies at a fraction of the cost they would pay their own employees to do the job. If I am living in Jamaica, they dont have to pay an employee to fly down, room and board to go and meet on the job site. I am already there! They can just pay me on an hourly or fee basis for my time. I can also have better interface and understanding with the construction team due to my knowledge of the field and culture.

    I just want to know how I should start marketing myself? I already have a work permit and residency I just need the job

      Hi i’m Jamaican and real estate is big business here more Jamaican people are into hgtv and are redesigning their homes will granite countertops,and the whole shebang. I suggest you look through the jamaican newspapers namely the jamaican gleaner and the jamaica observer. And take note of the new housing developments being advertised and try to contact those companies on a job prospect. Such as: matalon homes, house of issa, caribbean estates, chris blackwell, new era homes, carribean estates and many others. Search the jamaica yellow pages.com for their addresses etc. and contact them

      If you prefer smaller companies you can team up with jamaica architect/development from the directory listing of companies such as Maffessanti Builders and Contractors, unity limited or meet real estate people like jennifer messado or valerie levy who are experts on Jamaican real estate.
      As shown in these articles – http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20050904/business/business1.html

      Rubbing shoulders with these people will help to give you references and make you well known additionally you will learn who your target market should be,which are the developments that are doing really well and where and who to market luxury homes etc.

      Maybe later after you have had some experience you can go into your own business taking old ‘plantation style’ homes in kingston and making them into modern townhouses. Or get exposure of your decor skills in interior design magazines, newspaper and home improvement shows on local tv.

      That’s the best i can do hope it helps and p.s. – i’m not an expert :)

    Is Team Building necessary for my business?
    I have 20 employees working for me. I run an accounting office and somebody told me that one way of improving the working relationships between employees is to hire a team building consultant. That way, they can bring about productive output without much worries and without friction. Can team building consultants really help especially in these times of recession?

      its good if you engage one who knows how to get into the hearts and change them. Its lousy if u engage a lousy inexperience one. I can get u one who really good from asia. He has corporate experience n design his own training method, therefore it makes a lot of sense to engage this type of consultant.did some foe US companies in Asia and US.

    When a corporate “team-building” consultant calls something “fun”?
    Does that translate to “eye-gouging, soul-stealing torture” to us earthlings?

      ……I don’t want to remember…..
      ……I don’t want to go through this ‘fun’ again…..
      Let me be sad , please, I don’t mind!!

    Looking for some ideas to build a team…?
    I’m a consultant with the Pampered Chef & I’ve been having a great time meeting people and selling products, but I have yet to find any recurits. Does any one have any suggestions on how I can find people interested in joining my team?

    • PupsLLG says:

      Are you informing people at the show about the opportunity? Are you asking each guest if they would like more information about the Pampered Chef opportunity? You need to treat the opportunity just like you treat asking about hosting a show. Or you can think of the opportunity as another product you have to sell, if that makes it easier for you. From the training sessions I’ve attended at National Conference, you should ask each guest if they’d like more information about the opportunity first and then ask about hosting. If they aren’t interested in hosting a show, it doesn’t make as much sense to then ask them if they are interested in the opportunity.

      It’s really all a numbers game. The more people you talk to, the more people you’ll find that are interested in joining your team. It’s also important to keep in touch with those guests that have expressed an interest, but now is not a good time. I have had 3 recruits that signed up at least one year after I first talked to them about the opportunity.

      Also, remember not to prejudge your guests. You never know who might need the PC opportunity.

      I wish you the best of success!
